Prenatal Consultation In Bronx, NY

Dr Emily Women's Health Center - - Board Certified Obstetrics & Gynecology

Dr Emily Women's Health Center

Board Certified Obstetrics & Gynecology located in Bronx, NY

If you have a positive pregnancy test — or think you might be pregnant — a prenatal consultation is the important first step. This visit confirms your pregnancy, determines how far along you are, checks for any early concerns, and gives you a chance to talk with an experienced physician about your options and next steps.

At Dr. Emily Women’s Health Center, prenatal consultations are provided by board-certified OB/GYN physicians with over 30 years of experience. Whether you plan to continue the pregnancy, are considering your options, or simply want medical confirmation before making any decisions, we provide accurate information and respectful care without pressure.

What Happens at a Prenatal Consultation

Your prenatal consultation is a comprehensive first visit that gives you and your physician a clear picture of your pregnancy and your health. The visit typically includes the following:

Pregnancy confirmation. If you have not yet had a clinical pregnancy test, we can confirm your pregnancy at our office. Our in-office tests are more reliable than home tests, particularly in very early pregnancy.

Ultrasound. Your physician will perform an ultrasound to confirm that the pregnancy is located in the uterus (ruling out ectopic pregnancy), determine the gestational age, and establish an estimated due date. This is one of the most important parts of an early pregnancy evaluation because it confirms that the pregnancy is viable and safely positioned.

Medical history review. Your physician will review your medical history, current medications, and any prior pregnancies or surgeries. Certain health conditions — including diabetes, high blood press

When to Schedule a Prenatal Consultation

If you decide to continue the pregnancy, your prenatal consultation is the foundation for healthy prenatal care. During your visit, your physician will provide initial guidance on prenatal vitamins (particularly folic acid), dietary recommendations and foods to avoid, medications that are safe during pregnancy and any that should be stopped, what to expect physically during the first trimester, and when to schedule your ongoing prenatal appointments.

Dr. Emily Women’s Health Center provides initial prenatal evaluation and early pregnancy care. For ongoing prenatal care and delivery, we can help coordinate a referral to an OB/GYN practice or hospital-based program that provides full obstetric services, including labor and delivery. Bronx-based options include Montefiore Medical Center, NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx, SBH Health System, and BronxCare. We will work with you to make sure you have a seamless transition to continued care.

If You Are Considering Ending the Pregnancy

If you are thinking about ending the pregnancy, an early prenatal consultation helps determine your gestational age, which determines which options are available to you. The earlier you know how far along you are, the more choices you have.

Dr. Emily Women’s Health Center offers both medication abortion (the abortion pill, up to 9 weeks) and surgical abortion with general anesthesia (up to 21 weeks) at our AAAASF-accredited facility. If you decide to proceed, your physician can explain both options and, in many cases, begin the process during the same visit or schedule you within days. You do not need to make a decision during your consultation — but if you have already decided, we can move quickly.

If You Are Not Sure What You Want to Do

Many patients come in for a prenatal consultation before they have made a decision. That is completely normal, and there is no pressure to decide during your visit. Your physician will provide you with medically accurate information about all of your options, answer your questions, and give you the time and space you need. You can return when you are ready, and we will support whatever decision you make.

Cost and Insurance

Medicaid and Insurance: We accept Medicaid from all five NYC boroughs and most major insurance plans. A prenatal consultation is typically covered as a standard office visit. If you are uninsured, you may qualify for Medicaid — pregnant patients can often be enrolled the same day. Ask our staff for assistance.

Prenatal Consultation (Self-Pay Only)

⚠️ Ultrasound is mandatory at your first prenatal visit. No exceptions.

A sonogram is required before you can be seen by the physician. This is necessary to confirm how many weeks you are, verify the pregnancy is in the correct location, and establish your due date. Without this information, we cannot provide accurate prenatal care.

First Visit — $320 total:

  • Physician consultation: $200
  • Ultrasound (mandatory): $120

Return Visits:

  • Physician visit: $80
  • Ultrasound if clinically needed: $120 additional

Prenatal consultations are self-pay only. We do not accept Medicaid or insurance for prenatal visits. Payment is due at time of service.
